Lauren Fried has paid an emotional tribute to her late husband, celebrity chef Jock Zonfrillo, on what would have been his 50th birthday.
Sharing a heartfelt message, Lauren reflected on the life they built together and the continuing pain of losing him. She said the family marked his birthday by having lunch at a restaurant she believed he would have chosen, creating an emotional day filled with both tears and laughter.
“On what would have been your 50th. Happy birthday, my love,” Lauren wrote.
“Our little family are eating lunch in the exact restaurant you would have chosen. Tears, plenty of laughter and so many stories of Papa.”
Lauren acknowledged that life has changed profoundly since Zonfrillo’s death but said she and the children are continuing to build a new life together.
“Life will never be as it should have been, but we’re forging a new one, and it too is wonderful. Loz x,” she added.
The tribute prompted an outpouring of support from members of the Australian food and television community. MasterChef alumni including Laura Sharrad, Julie Goodwin and Tessa Boersma were among those who sent messages of love and support.
Zonfrillo’s former MasterChef colleague and close friend Andy Allen also responded, writing: “Sending so much love to you and the kids.”
Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver also offered his condolences, writing: “Much love to you and family xx.”
Jock Zonfrillo’s Death
Jock Zonfrillo died in May 2023 at the age of 46, shocking Australia and the culinary community.
The Scottish-born chef became widely known in Australia through his successful restaurant career and his role as a judge on MasterChef Australia. His death left behind his wife, Lauren, and four children.
In her book Till Death Do Us Part, Lauren described the intense public scrutiny she experienced while grieving her husband.
She recalled feeling that her family’s privacy had disappeared and described being frightened to leave the house with the children as public attention surrounding Zonfrillo’s death continued.
Lauren has continued to remember her husband publicly over the years. In May, she marked three years since his death with a photograph of the couple embracing and an emotional message expressing how difficult it remains to accept that he is no longer with them.
Family He Left Behind
Zonfrillo was the father of four children. He shared two older daughters, Ava and Sophia, from previous relationships, while his younger children, Alfie and Isla, were born during his marriage to Lauren.
Lauren and Zonfrillo met in 2014 and married in 2017. Their family life remained an important part of Zonfrillo’s legacy, and Lauren’s latest tribute reflects the continuing place he holds in the lives of his children.
Although three years have passed since his death, Lauren’s tribute shows that the grief of losing Jock remains deeply felt. His family continues to honor his memory through the stories, traditions, and moments they share together.
Jock Zonfrillo’s legacy lives on through his children, his culinary achievements, his television career, and the many people whose lives he touched throughout his time in the public eye.
