The Augusta, Georgia, community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Ulyssa C. Thomas, a 5-year-old girl who died days after suffering catastrophic injuries in a minibike crash on Gordon Highway. According to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office and Ulyssa’s family, she died at 1:06 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Wellstar MCG Health, where she had remained on life support following the devastating crash. Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen confirmed her death after several days of intensive medical treatment.
The accident happened Friday evening when Ulyssa was riding as a passenger on a black pit bike operated by 17-year-old Jaylen Thomas. Investigators said the minibike entered a parking lot at 1763 Gordon Highway from Milledgeville Road before striking a metal chain stretched between two concrete poles.
The impact threw both riders from the minibike. Preliminary findings indicate that reckless driving contributed to the crash, while the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Ulyssa suffered devastating injuries, including severe neck trauma and extensive brain damage caused by oxygen deprivation. Despite efforts by doctors and medical staff, she succumbed to her injuries several days later.
